The National American Woman Suffrage Association was formed when the dispute over the 15th amendment had been over for a long time, and the Reconstruction period was over, the women who had split apart in the dispute over the 15th amendment, reconvened and formed NAWSA.
NAWSA was a pro-suffrage organization that represented millions of American women. During the early 1900s NAWSA was presidented by Carrie Chapman Catt, following her predecessors Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. NAWSA hosted and participated in many events for women's rights such as conventions or parades. They also sponsored many newspapers, and "suffrage press" which produced books and pamphlets supporting women's suffrage. Most of their work was on a local level, however, because even if Congress produced an amendment, said amendment would have to be ratified by at least 2/3 of the states.
During World War 1, NAWSA gave the support of their 2 million supporters all to WIlson, believing that in order to get the right to vote, they must show their patriotism. NAWSA's members organized food drives, they helped those who were working during the war, and distributed emergency relief using organizations, such as Red Cross.
